Shanice | Interview (2006)
Aries (UBG): The first single "Every Woman Dreams" got a lot of
great reviews from industry insiders as well as fans,
what made you decide to go with "So Sexy" as the
follow-up, a complete flip from the first single?
Shanice: We were testing "So Sexy" but it looks like "Take care
of you" is going to be the second single, because it
tested very high. I think it's kind of cool that my
first single was for women and now my second single is
for men.
Aries (UBG): Is there a treatment for "So Sexy" yet and if so when
will the video be shot, any surprises, will we see
Shanice dancing in this clip?
Shanice: No because So Sexy isn't the second single anymore but
that doesn't mean that it's not going to be a single.
Aries (UBG): "Forever Like A Rose" seems to be the album
highlight, what prompted you to write about your Dad
now, when in the past you haven't?
Shanice: Because people always write songs about mothers. But
you rarely hear any songs about fathers. And over the
years my dad and I have grown a lot closer.
Aries (UBG): You straight killed it on BET's recent Christmas
special, did it feel good to be on the bill with all
of the new kids and still be the highlight of the
special?
Shanice: (laughs), Thank you!
I wouldn't consider myself the highlight of the show.
I feel that everyone was great. I was just honored to
be apart of the show.
Aries (UBG): I asked you a few years back what was your favorite
albums in what order, so now let me ask you what are
your top five favorite songs from yourself?
Shanice:
1) Yesterday
2) Crazy 4 U
3) Just a Game
4) Silent Prayer
5) Fall For You
Aries (UBG): What's your whole take on the situation with your
husband Flex Alexander being forced off of his own
show in a sense, with two movies slated to be released
this year he's obviously bounced back. We have talked
about how fickle the music industry is in the past, is
the TV and Film business just as fickle?
Shanice: Well actually he was not forced off the show he wasn't
pleased with the direction the show was going. And his
former show runner had gone behind his back and
pitched to the network that they do the show with just
the kids in college. He created "One On One" and he'll
create many more.
Aries (UBG): How are the kids, Imani and Elijah? I know Imani is
singing just like her mother?
Shanice: The kids are fine and Imani and Elijah love to sing.
Sometimes Imani will stand on the table and sing while
Elijah will act like her background singer.
Aries (UBG): I know you have a page on MySpace, does it amaze you
at times how many people love you and show you so much love. Is it ever
overwhelming to see so much support?
Shanice: It's a blessing to hear the positive comments of the
fans. Reading their comments has encouraged me to keep
singing. Like I said before the industry can be very
wicked to the point were you may not want to sing ever
again.
Aries (UBG): You were great in film BET's One Special Moment, do
you plan to do anymore movies in the near future?
Shanice: Yes, I plan to do movies. I'm just waiting for the
right role.
Aries (UBG): Your three biggest hits of your career so far have
been "Saving Forever For You," "When I Close My Eyes,"
and of course "I Love Your Smile." A lot of people
don't know you actually broke a Billboard record with
"When I Close My Eyes." How important are the charts
to you?
Shanice: Billboard is extremely important because that's the
chart that radio, MTV, BET, and VH1. But I
try not to read every week because it's almost like
you're trying to loose weight and the scale
doesn't change you get a little discouraged. I tell
when the record is doing well, people call me with the
good news.
Aries (UBG): If you could record with two other R&B females, who
would they be and why?
Shanice: Mariah Carey and Beyonce, They are both extremely
talented.
Aries (UBG): Any last words for your fans?
Shanice: I want to say to my fans, I love you and thank you
sooooooo much for your support. And please pick up my
new album "Every Woman Dreams" 2/21/06
