    UBG Speaks to Robin Thicke!

Robin Thicke is feeling the “Magic” on his new single, the first cut from his third studio album due this fall.

The R&B singer introduced his soulful sound to the world on the platinum certified album “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” in 2006. Since then the artist who earned praise for his soulful and classic sound on records like “Can U Believe” and “Wanna Love U Girl” has been working on the follow up album tentatively titled “Something Else,” which the singer reportedly wrote and produced from start to finish. An accomplished songwriter, Thicke has worked with R&B and pop artists including Mya, Usher, Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony and recently on Ashanti’s latest project ‘The Declaration.’

On “Magic,” the uptempo first single from “Something Else,” Thicke expands on his sultry, classic R&B sound reminiscent of a “feel good” Marvin Gaye or Isaac Hayes record where Thicke explains “sometimes you feel no hope, I’ve been there across that lonely road.” Celebrating with horns, horns and more horns he croons about that perfect relationship on “Magic” saying – “I can make it alright, I can wake up in paradise. We got that magic girl.”

After the success of Thicke’s “Evolution,” including the hit single “Lost Without You,” which earned the singer two 2007 BET Award Nominations. It’s evident that the singer has the “Magic” to wow fans yet again.

Thicke’s “Magic” was for released on May 20th, with “Something Else” due September via StarTrak/Interscope.

Aries speaks with Robin on his new release, why the new album title "Something Else," working with Jennifer Hudson, obstacles being a white artist doing R&B music & Much More!

Aries (UBG): Congrads on recently getting ASCAPS song of the year with "Lost Without U."
Robin Thicke: Thank you so much!

Aries (UBG): Did you expect to that at all?
Robin Thicke: I never really ever think about things like that, like awards and such. So to win that I was like wow this is cool (laughs).

Aries (UBG): I'm loving Magic, just the whole vibe of it and vocals are amazing! Is that vibe the type of direction you took with this new album?
Robin Thicke: Thank you! This record basically carries over to who I am, the soul guy like the last album. Like celebrating things and just hanging out with friends, having a good time. The album is kinda like the 70's Harlem vibe.

Aries (UBG): Why the title "Something Else?"
Robin Thicke: Really because of just how the world is today, everything from gas prices to the war. I wanted to come with something different as in music, with everything kinda sounding the same on the radio. It's like Obama, it's time for a change (laughs), so I'm doing it with my music as well.

Aries (UBG): What makes this album different from the last?
Robin Thicke: Really this album is something for everybody and everybody should be able to relate to it. Unlike the last album it was really about me and who I was. The white guy singing soul (laughs).

Aries (UBG): How was it working with Lil Wayne & Ashanti on their new releases?
Robin Thicke: Man it was great! I'm not really an artist that records his harmonies on other artists records. With Ashanti, she came in and I heard the record and it was so organic, I just loved it! She was so cool to work with. With Lil Wayne, he's really just special and an amazing artist. So anytime I have the opportunity to work with someone like him, I'll jump on it.

Aries (UBG): Rumor has it you're working on Jennifer Hudson's debut album, tell me about that track.
Robin Thicke: Yeah, I wrote a song, it's kinda like The Bodyguard theme (laughs). It's really a cute song. How it came about is she was basically telling me what she was going through and I went from there. I don't wanna give it all away but I can say it's a song about love.

Aries (UBG): Any other future collaborations coming up for you?
Robin Thicke: Nothing that's in the near future. I'm sure I will be writing for some more artists. When it happens, I'll be ready for it.

Aries (UBG): You get so much props from everybody in the R&B field, from Usher to Ashanti to music fans in general. What has been an obstacle that you've had to face being a white artist performing Soul music?
Robin Thicke: Really I don't think it's been anything worse then any white artists who have come before me performing R&B had to face as far as racism. I take it all with stride really. I try to understand the people who are like that and understand it's the there way of life, so it doesn't bother me.

Aries (UBG): What's some of your favorite past times when you're not working on or performing great music?
Robin Thicke: I love to take slow long drives, hang out with my lady and relax with a glass of wine. I also like to take walks on the beach.

Aries (UBG): What would be your dream tour, if you could headline a tour with two other artists?
Robin Thicke: Oh wow (laughs), me and two other artists? Let's see, Usher would be one of them. And let's see... oh yeah of course Lil Wayne!

Aries (UBG): What's next for you outside of the new album release?
Robin Thicke: Right now I'm in the process of starting my tour. I want to tour as much as possible for this release. I also wrote a screenplay that I want to have picked up and made into a movie. Do more music and just anything I can get my hands in. I always dream big!

Aries (UBG): Any last words for your fans?
Robin Thicke: I just really want to thank them for all the love and support they always show me. I want them to know that I am going to continue to challenge myself when it comes to my music & with that put out more great music!
