UNK Brings Da Heat!
UNK speaks to Aries from UrbanBridgez.com on his sophomore release "Second Season," working with Ray J, Haters, Being the #1 New Hip-Hop artist of 2007 and more!
UNK: Well it's basically the follow-up to Walk it Out. I dedicate that song to all my fans. I've been around the world, doing shows and things like that. My fans kept asking me, when is the next album gonna drop. So I made that the first single for them, like we back and we showin out!
UrbanBridgez.com: Tell us about the new release "Second Season."
UNK: Second Season is my sophomore album and you know what they say about sophomore releases and it being hard to come back. I just went in and put a lot of work into it man. I have some great artists featured on the album like Ray J, Ying Yang Twins. Three 6 Mafia and Sean Kingston. I love this album better than the first, we still bumpin!
UrbanBridgez.com: What type of album did you set out to record this time around?
UNK: Basically I wanted to show growth from recording the first album. I mean more mature you know. But we got them lil sexy joints, the crunk music of course. It's just different as far as the growth.
UrbanBridgez.com: How did you hook up with Ray J for this project?
UNK: That's my homeboy. We're also on the same label at KOCH. I always told him that we need to do something & he was like let's do it. He's always supported me as an artist and he's a cool dude. The single with him is called "She Freaky" (laughs), you know how Ray J is. It's also the second single.
UrbanBridgez.com: With "Walk It Out" being so huge, were you ever worried about being a one hit wonder?
UNK: Nah I wasn't never really worried about that. Then 2 Step also did good as a single and hit the top 10. I mean I'm just blessed really to have the success I've had. I'm gonna be here for a minute!
UrbanBridgez.com: What do you say to the people who judge your music as gimmicky and not real Hip-Hop, but dance music?
UNK: Get a chick and a life (laughs)! Really man I just brush all that stuff off. It's all opinions and people always got a negative one ya know. I never take peoples opinions serious or like going on the net on blogs and seeing negative stuff people have to say about me. You know those people are most likely broke and mad & upset they can't do what we do. Like my boy Manio says, "Hi Haters!" We all need haters, they're motivation to me.
UrbanBridgez.com: BILLBOARD named you #1 Top-New Hip-Hop Artist of 2007, what went through your mind when you heard that?
UNK: Aww man I just couldn't believe it! It's crazy because when I use to research the industry, you know like reading the industry mags like Billboard. I use to always see the main people who are always on top of the charts like Mary J., Jay Z, Chris Brown, etc. So to look at the charts and see me #1. Basically a nobody at that time it was just priceless.
UrbanBridgez.com: What else are you working on outside of music?
UNK: I'm doing a Clothing Line called Gitz-A-Go and kids line called Gitz. I'm just working man, doing whatever I can get into. I plan to go and do some movies. Just basically living my life.
UrbanBridgez.com: Who has the hottest Hip-Hop album out this year in your opinion?
UNK: T.I., Jeezy and Lupe!'
