Re-Release This... |
April 15th, 2008The public is tired; tired of being pigeonholed into spending their hard earned money on something that should have been done right the first time around. Its bad enough gas prices are at an all time high, people are losing their homes to foreclosure, and the average man’s paycheck is getting smaller than ever before. Even music, the favorite pastime people look to for inspiration and creativity is being swallowed in this circle of life called “greed”. You’re probably looking at this and rolling your eyes but “greed”, fly-by-night artists, and lack of quality are all factors as to why the music industry is still on a downward spiral. Executives blame sales on downloading but in all cases it isn’t true. We’re tired of being hyped up with these artists that have one hot hit but an album full of misses. True enough many albums are selling less than $10, depending on the retailer, but that only goes on for the first couple of weeks of the initial release. You can tell us to go to Itunes and pick out what we like but not everyone who has access to computers have access to Ipods. For us who purchase albums faithfully we’re always led to believe the best material is put before us and months later when the album has sold well you’re ready to release it again. Why? Have you executives, marketing department and A&R’s heard the notion of “do it right or don’t do it at all?” You didn’t see legends like Luther, Teddy, Patti, and countless others milking their fans for what they had. These respected legends worked their craft and ensured us quality whenever an album was due. We didn’t feel shortchanged because we knew each track was well thought out and enough to hold us over until the next album. Today’s artists are real sad because they feel we should buy whatever they put before us and I’m sorry it doesn’t work that way. Time is something that should be used wisely. If you feel your album doesn’t have the quality you’re looking for, take the initiative to ensure your album is what you want it to be. Don’t wait until it’s time for you to go on tour, record a hot song, and decide that it needs to be on a re-issue of your original album. It’s very unethical and very unprofessional for you to want your fans to re-purchase an album they already have. Some of us still aren’t satisfied with the original product and you wonder why people download. Executives take note: if you want people to buy, get it right on the first try. Quit being greedy and doing things on the sly. Therefore the downloading will continue and the music industry will die. Dhaani(UBG)
The Freedom of Choice! |
February 25th, 2008Lately it seems politics have been the overnight sensation in the United States. There isn’t a day that goes by where you don’t hear about the upcoming election and the candidates fighting for their party’s nomination. If you’ve been living under a rock, you know about the heated battle between Democratic nominees Former First Lady and Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama. Both have been advocates for change but their campaigns have been losing sight of their mission. Since the high profiled South Carolina primaries, it seems as if race, gender, and the constant bickering have overshadowed what these potential candidates are capable of if they pull off the bid for the nomination. Change is evident but we can’t believe in people who are at each other’s throats contradicting themselves shooting the same political game we hear when election time comes around. There’s no denying there’s history taking place with the first African-American and woman going for the number one spot. As Americans we need to focus on the state of our country and what these candidates can do to restore the American Dream. What angers me is how people are suddenly turning on the Clintons since Mr. Obama arrived on the scene. I remember to this day how Bill Clinton was the most admired man in the African-American community. Before he arrived at the White House, what other black man did you see besides Colin Powell? That man made opportunities for blacks and Latinos possible and I don’t think it’s right for folks to say he hasn’t done shit for any of us. There was food on the table and people going to work everyday with a smile on their face. I don’t have anything against Mr. Obama because he’s a terrific speaker and new icon in the black community. I don’t agree with people putting color and affections before looking at the candidate’s qualifications. Lastly, celebrities should stay out of these campaigns. It’s nice to know you all vote and still have a mind when it’s not influenced by money. Shut up and let people believe in the person they want to see in the White House. We don’t need the videos from you all talking about “Yes We Can” shoved down our throats. Most of you are living comfortable while most of us are working citizens living paycheck to paycheck wondering what tomorrow will bring. If the campaign on the Democrat side doesn’t change, I think I may end up voting for Independent Ralph Nader who announced his nomination on Feb 24th. Wake up and read about your candidate. If they’re voted in and don’t live up to your expectations, YOU are the one who has to live with the decision. That’s why were given the right to vote…TO BE HEARD! Love, Dhaani(UBG)
